There was no big idea behind this piece other than I just wanted to make a kick ass picture real quick.

I spent maybe 4 hours in all prepping the scene. The rendering itself took just over 25 hours to complete. Way more than what I expected but that is the price you pay for the nice motion blur effect.

I actually have plans to render a second picture of this scene from a different angle so tune in soon - same mech-time, same mech-channel

Some minor tweaks to motion blurring. Also managed to reduce the render time significantly.

Changed the material on the mech slightly.

New missile effects and some fine tuning on the laser

Wow, awesome Timberwolf!  It was always one of the coolest mechs, in my opinion. Beautiful model and rendering!

The TimberWolf AKA "MAD CAT" is still my fav mech of all time. so what if its not as big and powerful as an atlas? its still kicks ass on its own!

just a thought.... since I *AM* the undisputed best Battletech player in North America (I say that with arrogance and pride... smile) I was always wondering about a lil omission when viewing pics of various Mechs especially in combat..
Hang with me here a sec....
I n Battletech the overriding limiting factor against any mech is it's heat buildup... now to dissipate that excess heat all Mechs have complex heat sinks...
Still with me...?
When firing in salvo's ( such as here) or even in controlled placement shots those weapons should be throwing off that excess heat into those heatsinks...
Almost done...
so when showing combat or weapons fire there should some opaque or "shimmering" or some effect of the heatsinks ( and their placement which has ALWAYS been a mystery to me!) disapating that excess or even "normal" heat buildup..

I'm glad you leaned more towards the classic TimberWolf design rather than the Dark Age reminiscent style of the MW4 version. I only hope the artists for MWO do the same!

What an awesome take on an iconic battlemech. This image really brings the Timberwolf to life, and the detail on the model is just incredible!

I'm a big fan of the timberwolf (as are a lot of battletech mech-heads) and I have to say that I'm a little worried about what ~flyingdebris is going to do with some of the iconic clan mech designs.

But this model is awesome ^_^ He should take a note from you on this one.

Whohoo the MadKitty on a stroll ^^ love that 'Mech above any other Heavies :D

Suggestions: Less blur effect on the smoke trails and let that part interact with the exhaust flame of the missile, a second pass for that part only may do the trick, it feels like the missiles and smoke trail are alienated from the rest of the scene. Also better dust particles or small chunks of earth thrown up from the 'Mechs feet. Though all of that could be done as postwork in PS too.

Yes much better though sadly I can't directly say it was the desired effect on the missiles but that may be my personal criteria striking way to harsh outside its operational border :spank:

This was what I was looking for in the image, where the exhaust flame is enclosed in the smoke trail.

That its done entirely in MAX makes the image kick ten times more imho than if the effect was done as post work, any monkey can do that in PS :pirate: Good job on reducing the render time, thats usually the most frustrating part to try and cut down on.

Nice use of motion blur, it gives the render a sense of action and aliveness that most BT renders lack of. I also like the beefed up legs and arms of that Timberwolf. Excellent work.
