Suddenly this idea popped in to my head yesterday evening... When that happens, I just can't stop working until it's finished. Simple pictures like this really are loads of fun to make.

Here we see a mean Loki/Hellbringer opening a big can of whoopass. Good times for everyone. KABOOOM!!

Agreed! It literally looks like focused lightening. And I've seen very little artwork (hand-drawn or rendered) that can accomplish that.

Ok, I am going to give it a shot as to how you did the PPCs. You first either used splines or ky Trail for the main particle trails. You then added a single stream of meta particles with a physical transparency texture to overlap the particle beams. Lastly you emitted an array of spherical blue particles with a high jitter along the path of the energy trail. How close did I get?

Pretty close. First I created an 8 sided cylinder and twisted it along its length. I then created splines out of the long twisting edges. Then I made a second cylinder over them with plenty of surface polygons and gave it a noise modifier (meta particles would work just as fine though). To that I applied a transparent material with a refractive value slightly less than 1. Lastly the emitter for the spherical particles.
