What was supposed to be something very quick and simple, turned out to become the exact opposite... :P

Anyways. Here is my latest doodle: A desktop sized picture of a Warhammer standing on the surface of some asteroid. I chose to use very little colors because i wanted to emphasize the barrenness of the environment. And lets face it, space doesn't have the brilliant colors we see in games and movies.

The basic concept and layout for this was done in something like 30 minutes, but I spent 3-4 days tweaking it. Finally got tired of it and decided to upload it here.

Tried a few new things with this piece: I made my first attempt at a nebula and an asteroid belt. Turned out ok I guess...

Tools used: Wings3D, Yafray, Terragen, LunarCell, Photoshop.

Nicely done did you use the Japanese Toy as a model for this? The details look very like the old model/toy I had. Very well done!

Yea I have a plastic model sitting on my bookshelf that I used as reference for the basic shape and proportions.

I thought so, I used to have the full set of Macross models years and years ago. Still some of my favorite mecha designs.

Again excellent work.

Makes me miss the Mechwarriors games.... mine don't work anymore... and I can't really buy them anywhere.

Helluva pic, though. The nebula's actually pretty good, and the Warhammer looks awesome.

It's a Warhammer Specifically. I know this because Punakettu is a huge Mechwarrior/Battletech fan.

I know, it was a joke! Whenever I put out an "unseen" mech, I usually throwout a wide range of names. But that just me. If you cant tell, I'm a bit of a Mecha-geek. ;P

Nice work.
The only thing that's not so perfect are the hard borders between hammer and asteroid on one side and the background on the other.

I like the gear-mesh idea you have going on at the elbow and knee joints-
Where the leg connects to the torso is interesting- it looks good! I always find that part challenging to think of how to do.

Lastly I like that fancy light up top with all the little finkibinkiboonkaboppers attached to it. pretty sweet

Cool lookin mech!

Great work!

P.S.: The edge of the moon seems too sharp at some point, blurring it more should help :)

Very, very nice.
The planet in the background goes from having a blurry edge with the atmosphere infront, on the left, to having a sharp edge with the atmosphere behind, on the right.
Looks odd.

Warhammer looks good, but the handle on the torso hasnt been smoothed. Texture is... not too bad, but I'm sure there are other ways to do texturing as well that would probably look better.

Terragen landscape texture looks flat for some reason. I encounter similar problems at times, though I'm not completely sure why.

Space... hmmm... everything behind the Warhammer looks good, everything infront of it in the background needs more work to get to the same standard. The detail on the planet behind the warhammer looks good and catches my eye, the rest of the planet infront of the warhammer just looks blurred and rather flat.

I'm not exactly sure why terragen has that "flatness", but I imagine it has something to do with the lack of reference points that give the picture depth. Pictures from the moon seem flat to me too...

No, thats not what I meant.

I mean the texture, the bump map on the surface lacks detail.

Aaah... Well that's just a matter of adjusting bumpiness of the texture with the designated slider.

I left the ground smooth on purpose as it's supposed to be sand.

Lucky bum, ive been trying to get my dirty paws on Terragen for months now! I like the Warhammer, tho teh planet and terrain look a lil choppy (well, the planet especially), but other than that, looks good!
